Why should students in the Appalachian region consider going to college?

This region is rich with resources and talent.  No matter what students want to do when they are older, any type of postsecondary degree will support them in reaching their goals. Going to college (2- or 4-year) is like taking the talents a student already has and helping them nurture it into something they can build a career upon through exposure to new opportunities.

What is one piece of advice you would offer a middle or high school student?

Exposure!  Find ways to expose yourself to new things now.  The more opportunities that you know exist, the easier it will be for you to identify your true passions, talents, and goals.  I know that trying something new can be hard and sometimes scary, but without trying it, you won’t know if you like it or not. So think about what clubs and organizations are at your school.  Try a few new ones next year! You never know where those opportunities will take you.
